Ultrabooks May Feature High Resolultion

Dell and HP will launch their first ultrabook right after their rivals Acer, Asus, Toshiba and Lenovo. The former are planning to ramp up their production by the end of the year via Quanta Computer, a Taiwanese manufacturer, the latter already contracted Wistron to produce a 14-incher that will be displayed at CES January 2012.

Sources also revealed that Wistron is producing Acer Aspire S3, a 13-inch notebook. Compal Electronics is working on the 15-incher version of the Aspire S3 as well as Lenovo Ideapad U300s. Pegatron Technology is busy with Asus' 11.66-inch UX21 and the larger UX31 at 13-inch. No release dates yet but it is expected that these devices will come out before the year ends.

Since HP and Dell won't have their ultrabooks before everyone else, it is believe that both of the companies will use the next-gen Intel Ivy Bridge. However, that will be very unlikely since the leaked roadmaps suggested that Ivy Bridge will emerge in March or April 2012. Ivy Bridge is also reported to boast extremely high-res display that will cram 2560×1440 in a 13.3-inch panel. This would push price points and punish battery life if such high resolution is used.
