Intel is really pushing hard the ultrabook line it's irrational. According to Kaz Yoshida, president of Intel Japan, the ultrabook is much more useful than the mini laptops we know as netbook.
Yoshida concludes that even if the netbook sales are high, the overall result was that people are ultimately compromised in the quality of the device.
He said, ""Netbooks were a very interesting product because it enabled a lower price point, which helped to expand the user base [of PCs],"
He then added, "However, it didn't grow as much as we originally expected and turned out just to be a low-end booster, as opposed to creating a new value added user experience.
"We didn't focus very well on that the end user cares about performance. Performance transfers into better usability."
Asked if the ultrabook line will mean the demise of the notebook, Yoshida was about hesitant because of the huge gap in price between the two devices.
He then concluded, "Thin and light has always been positioned quite high on the price scale but the Ultrabook is placed significantly lower than that."
Clearly, Intel is hoping for the ultrabook to be the de facto form factor in thin and light computing.
