In an interview between Asus Chairman Jonney Shih and Walt Mossberg at AsiaD, Shih dropped hints about his company's arriving Transformer 2, an Android 4.0 tablet that will be fully revealed next month. He did also unveil more other nuggets worth mentioning. At first, he finally caved to Walt's question on his major competition at the moment, particularly related to the new Zenbook. "The Mac [Book] Air," he alleged, while laughing quietly afterwards, but hastily as he plugs into his own PC based on its own qualities.
Although he's still confidence that Android tablets run the show, and alleged that ASUS is still working on its target of close to 2 million Android tablets before the end of the year. Touching on the topic of netbooks, Shih said that as much as netbooks appeared being buried, they are simply "evolving." More significantly, though, was his slight affirmation that a new ASUS netbook is on the way: "You'll see on our new netbook, it'll be very thin." He said. Actually, he suggested that the design possibly will be comparable to the Zenbook, but slightly a smaller piece.
While the question rose on reduced consumer demand on laptops and perhaps changing tune to smartphones and tablets, Shih further noted that every markets was chief to ASUS' success, and nothing was being taken lightly. Although ASUS has been on the forefront of the cloud bandwagon way before likewise consumer companies even knew the cloud. The first spate of Eee PCs had almost no internal storage; and mostly relied on going through the web to deliver the volume of their functionality.
According to Shih, ASUS is trying to deal with an exciting setback with its products, which is – consumers find it almost difficult to disconnect work and entertainment – which means, you need products that appeal both sides. Presumably, Padfone plus Transformer Prime plus Zenbook is his number one trifecta to accomplish that.
