Laptop for Kids: Toshiba L735D-S3300

About a year ago, Toshiba offered  L635 model which was aimed at the kiddie market but was discontinued later on. Now, Toshiba is once again attempting to reach out to young consumers with an updated version -  model L735D-S3300.

The new model includes the AMD E-series E300 dual-core processor instead of an Intel Celeron in the L635. The hard drive specs are now higher (3GB and 320GB  compared to 2GB and 250GB on L635). Since it's based on the standard L735, the Kids version has the same features, such as a DVD burner, a 1366×768 screen, webcam, Wi-Fi, and a media card reader.

However, the Kids version has no Bluetooth (no antenna), no modem port,  no PC Express Slot, nor a SmartCard Reader slot. It has 2-USB (2.0) ports, Memory Card Reader, 10/100 Ethernet LAN, Wi-Fi® Wireless networking (802.11b/g/n), Webcam and microphone built into LCD bezel though.

What the Satellite L735 Kids PC has that most grown-ups' laptops don't is that it is ruggedized with a wipeable keyboard, a fingerprint resistant textured finish, and bumpers on the corners. This laptop is perfect for ages 7 to 12. Also, the 13.3-inch size is more optimized for kids, since larger laptops can be too heavy for them to carry around.

Kids will definitely love the L735 because it is preloaded with some applications for them, such as KidZui web browser with built-in parental control and LEGO Harry Potter video game.

This laptop comes with genuine Windows 7 Home Premium (64-bit).

The Toshiba Satellite L735D-S3300 Kids PC is priced at $498 according to Toshiba Direct, but Best Buy lists it for $399.
