Dell Returns to Thin and Light Category

Dell already had a line of ultrathin laptops called the Adamo. It was poised to compete with MacBook Air. Due to depressingly low sales, the last model of the Adamo series, the Adamo XPS, was discontinued back in February. With Intel's persistence to create the the ultrabook category, Dell is back with a vengeance and will try its hand again with the Ultr

Dell had a great hardware design with the Adamo. Because of the high prices of the components compounded by the disappointing overall performance of the Adamo, people didn't support the underperforming htin laptop. Now, Intel is asiting manufacturers to create thin and light Ultrabooks with great battery life, graphics and computing prowess. Dell may have success with Ultrabook than with their previous misadventures with Adamo.

In addition, Intel will be announcing the availability of the next-gen, 22-nanometer, Ivy Bridge processor that may power Ultrabooks this spring 2012. Dell's possible Ultrabook would take advantage of Ivy Bridge's USB 3.0 support and powerful graphics performance.

Dell has had interesting hardware designs such as the Inspiron Duo with a 360-degree, horizontally swiveling screen. Even the Adamo XPS is quite neat in design. I would be nice to see more innovative designs in the Ultrabook category,
