HP to Keep PC Division, Tablets with Windows 8, Long-term webOS Decision on Hold

Newly-appointed Hewlett-Packard CEO Meg Whitman announced that the Personal Systems Group or simply the PC division will be kept. After a thorough strategic review, Whitman says "HP is committed to PSG, and together we are stronger."

On the other hand, when asked about the tablet, Whitman said that HP's continuing to focus on a Microsoft-based tablet and Windows 8 for that category. PSG head Todd Bradley said, "we're at the beginning stages of a new segment. I hardly think that we're too late, the work we're doing with Microsoft is extraordinarily compelling, ultraportables are compelling." Bradley clarified later on that he was referring to notebooks and not phones.

Questions on the future of webOS are still hanging. Whitman nor Bradley had anything all that firm to add: "webOS is the next piece to complete. The whole team is working very hard to make the right decisions. We'll make a decision about the long-term future of webOS within the next couple months."
