B&N Nook Touch Now on Adobe Flash 9

The Barnes & Noble Nook Simple Touch tablet is capable of loading video in a superfast speed through Flash 9. This is something that the much-exalted iPad cannot do, which is a feat, considering that it is a lesser-known model than the iPad.

Earlier, the Nook Tablet was also hacked by a user of XDA forums to enable the device to refresh pages in a very fast manner. In fact, the refresh rate is so fast that half of the content gets cut on the screen because of the speed. Instructions on how this is done is available on the forum.

At its price, the e-reader has modest specifications, which includes an E-Ink Pearl display and Best-Text technology for clear and sharp text. Its display spans 6 inches, has a resolution of 800 x 600, and a 16-level greyscale and adjustable font styles and sizes.

Its battery holds up to two months of battery life with an hour of reading per day, and can charge via USB or through a wall socket. It has Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n connectivity. It has a memory of 2GB which has 1 GB free for user content and 750 MB for B&N content. Connectors include microUSB and an expandable microSD slot.

The Nook Simple Touch tablet costs mere $99 versus the $500 price tag of the iPad.

Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 For Sale at 729 Euros?

The Samsung Galaxy Note 10 will be selling for €729, if AndroidPit got its facts right. The price will be competitive with other similar 10-inch tablets available in the market today, including Samsung's own 10.1-inch tablets.

The device was previewed during Mobile World Congress in Spain last month. Some of its specifications were revealed in that event, including a 1.4 GHz dual core processor, possibly a Cortex A9, alongside 1 GB of RAM.

It also sports a PLS TFT touchscreen, unlike its 5-inch version, the Samsung Galaxy Note, which has a Super AMOLED display.

The Galaxy Note 10 is also equipped with a 3.15 MP rear camera with LED flash support. It has the ability to record 1080p videos at 30fps, ensuring high definition quality videos. A secondary camera with 2 MP is also available, facing the front.

Its interface features Android Ice Cream Sandwich with an overlay of TouchWiz UI. Taking off from the original Galaxy Note, this device is also equipped with the S-Pen Stylus which works with the touchscreen's 255 levels of pressure sensitivity. This offers 10 times the accuracy of a regular capacitive touchscreen.

The Galaxy Note 10 is expected to be available during the second quarter of 2012.

BYD T10COT Tablet Might Come in U.S.

As early as fall of last year, a Chinese electronics company called BYD showcased a Windows 7 tablet running on Intel Atom Oak Trail CPU. Now, it seems that the tablet, called BYD T10COT, could be making its way to US stores. The device had been spotted on the official website of the Federal Communications Commission website just this week.

This tablet features a 10.1-inch capacitive touchscreen that supports 2-point touch functionality. It has a Z670 processor with a clock speed of 1.5 GHz. It also has Windows 7 Home Premium but it will possibly be able to run Windows 8 once the operating system is launched this year. The device likewise has 1 GB of RAM and a storage capacity of 32 GB on its SSD.

Its external terminals include 2 USB 2.0 ports and HDMI out for plugging the device into a larger screen. It is also equipped with a 52Whr battery. Weighing 2 pounds, the device has dimensions of 10.4 x 6.7 x 0.6 inches.

There are no announcements from the company on its official launch date or its retail price. It is also likely the another company could be carrying the device instead of BYD.

Apple Alleged to Use Slim Bezel Display for iPad Mini

Apple is expected to have slimmer bezels for the smaller version of the iPad. This device, called the iPad Mini for the time being, will likely have a display size of 7.85 inches. This is slightly larger than the present offerings in 7-inch tablets available today, which could be one selling point for this device.

This tablet will sport a design that will compete with similar models from companies like Samsung Electronics and Amazon, which are among its top rivals in the tablet niche. Last year, Amazon took the electronics world by storm as the Kindle Fire emerged as the second most successful tablet in terms of sales.

Meanwhile, Samsung is preparing to launch two next-generation Samsung Galaxy Tab slates with 7 and 10.1-inch displays. The iPad Mini is expected to have a price similar with these tablets, making it a viable competitor once it is launched.

The iPad Mini, however, will probably not have the already-famous Retina Display found on the new iPad released just this March. Rather, it will have a IPS/FFS panels courtesy of LG display and AU Optronics (AUO).

It is also possible that this device could be the key for bolstering Apple's eTextbook program, given its price and portability.

iPad pre-orders already receiving delay emails

Despite only being announced on Wednesday 7th, pre-orders for Apple's new iPad have already seen buyers receiving delay emails. The latest iPad is set to be released March 16th but, in the UK there appears to be a shortage issue already. In the UK the Apple store didn't come back online for around 4 hours after the announcement when pre-orders could begin to be placed, with many buyers repeatedly refreshing the page until it the store was open. For those who managed to order between 11:30pm on March 7th and 8am March 8th, orders still appear to be on track for a March 16th delivery. However, quite a lot of buyers who placed orders after 8am on Thursday have now received delay emails from Apple, informing them they won't receive the iPad on the 16th but, rather the 21st of March, despite the website still saying March 16th for delivery.

The Apple website has since been updated and now consumers who pre-order in the UK at least, are expected to see the product dispatched in two to three weeks time. Some consumers in the US have also received the dreaded delay emails but, the majority of reports are coming from the UK. In contrast, a lot of US buyers are instead reporting that they are receiving shipping emails, informing them the new iPads have been dispatched.

Acer Introduces Timeline M3 and M5 Ultrabooks

While many ultrabook manufacturers are preparing their devices for  this year's edition of the CeBIT, Acer has also unveiled two of its own,  the Aspire Timeline M3 and M5 ultrabooks. While pricing and availability information were not yet given, the two models are more or less identical. The former, however, measures 15 inches, while the latter has a 14-inch display.

An Intel Core series central processing unit handles everything, but it is paired with  NVIDIA GeForce GT640M graphics card for visual performance. This may not be the strongest grphics solution around, but it is definitely a step up from Intel's GMA.  Acer did not also mention the RAM amount, but there should be several gigabytes (2 GB / 4GB). The native resolution of the displays was not specified, but they should probably have 1,600 x 900 pixels, or Full HD, considering the discrete graphics (1,920 x 1,080 pixels).

The spec sheet goes on with an optical drive for the 15-inch version, an HDD as well as the option to skip on the latter and use an SSD instead. Lastly, the Green Instant-On technology lets the ultrabooks wake up in 1.5 seconds.

Gigabyte Unveils U2442N and U2442V Ultrabooks

Gigabyte has finally unveiled two of its ultrabooks, the U2442N and U2442V. The company introduced them just a short time ago in Hannover, Germany, having secured a spot at this year's CeBIT show. Like all ultrabooks, they are very thin mobile PCs with performance slightly higher than that of netbooks but lower or equal to that of standard notebooks.

The U2442N, the stronger of the two based on performance, uses standard voltage central processing units from the Intel Core i5 and Core i7 lines. Storage space is either a 750GB solid state drive (SSD) or a 750GB HDD (hard disk drive), depending on user's value between speed and capacity. Furthermore, Gigabyte tossed in USB 3.0 support, Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi and an optional Thunderbolt port as well as a backlit keyboard.

The U2442V, as the less performance-focused, runs on either of the ultra-low voltage CPUs, Core i5 or Core i7, but share the same specs with the former.

Gigabyte chose to make its ultrabooks slightly larger than competing devices, with screens measuring 14 inches instead of 13.3. The native resolution is of 1,600 x 900 pixels, not exactly Full HD (1,920 x 1,080 pixels) but better than HD (1,366 x 768 pixels).

Unfortunately, Gigabyte did not say how long the two models are supposed to last on a single battery charge, so there's no telling if the battery span of the U2442V is worth the performance sacrifices. Moreover, time of arrival and prices are completely unknown as well.

To celebrate the Olympic Games to be held in London this year, Acer is releasing a special Iconia Tab A510 Olympic Games tablet. The device will sport both the Acer logo and the Olympic Games logo at its back. Apart from this, however, all its specifications remain the same with the original Iconia Tab A510.

This device was showcased during CES earlier this year, alongside the A700, which has a larger pixel display resolution of 1920×1200 vis-à-vis the A510's 1280×800 pixels. The A510 also runs on NVIDIA Tegra 3 quad-core processor and is packed with a 9800mAh battery that lasts up to 15 hours. There is 15 GB of storage capacity on the device, expandable through a built-in microSD slot for up to 32 GB.

It comes with two cameras, a front-facing one with 1 MP, and a rear-facing one with 5 MP. At its side is a 3.5 mm audio jack and HDMI out. The tablet also supports HD video playback, noise suppression, echo cancellation, and HD voice. The audio is courtesy of Dolby Mobile 3+ which comes with a 5.1 channel HD output.

The Olympic Games tablet will be available in the UK in time for the event, although there is no word on whether it will also be released internationally or how much it will cost.
