New chips sneak out of Intel: Not often would you witness such Escape from Alcatraz-style. But that occurred "figuratively" speaking, with foursome of processors emerging with slight exhibition from Chipzilla. The firm has unveiled the D2500 and D2700 for nettops and the N2600 and N2800 for netbooks. The N2600 Atom chip runs at 1.6GHz or 1.86GHz with less than 3.5W thermal design power (TDP). The Atom N2800 is a bit higher and runs at 1.86GHz or 2.13GHz with a thermal design power (TDP) of 6.5W.
For Intel's nettop receptive Atom D2500, the frequencies include 1.86GHz and 2.13GHz with a thermal design power of less than 10W, whereas the Atom D2700 runs at 2.13GHz and 2.4Ghz while maintaining the same 10W thermal design power. All of intel's chips (D2000 and N2000) excluding the D2500 support Hyperthreading plus they have 512KB of Level 2 cache. Of course, one major upgrade is their knack to support up to 4GB of DDR3 RAM, although in a single-channel configuration – assuring a single or dual slot board configuration.
