PC vendors are struggling to play catch-up and they are reportedly losing interest with their battle with Apple and Amazon in the tablet department. Apple got a strong grip on the market for two years now with their invulnerable iPad and now Amazon's Kindle Fire is blazing with success. No official figures are released yet but Amazon is claiming that they are selling millions of Kindle Fires before Black Friday.
With the rise of tablets, netbook profits are dwindling to the ground and vendors are giving up in the netbook department, Acer and ASUS are the only manufacturers left fighting over the suffering market. Recent flooding in Thailand halts the progress of traditional laptop sales. Gloomy as it may be, many analysts are believing that the notebook industry are into rapid upturn with the Ultrabook line next year.
PC makers are very excited with Intel's thin and light form factor since Ultrabooks offer larger profit margin. This line started with underwhelming start with Acer and Asus cutting their sales forecasts into half. The problem is pinpointed mainly on the high retail prices of the Ultrabooks. Intel intended for the ultrabook to be priced below $1,000 but the early ultrabook lines went over the barrier. Despite all of this and the lukewarm response by the public, many insiders are optimistic about the growth of the ultrabook.
PC makers are now implementing several cost-cutting measures so that the next Ultrabook lines meet Intel's pricing guidelines. Intel is supposed to offer 5-10% discount with partners but it seems like it is not enough. According to reports, manufacturers are looking into using plastic internals to cu cost. Along with the promised lower prices, the Ultrabook will be much more interesting with Ivy Bridge and Windows 8.
