jetBook Color Goes International

7-inch tablets can act as e-readers but several users prefer devices with e-ink as their reading devices. These devices got longer battery life, direct sunlight outdoors-readable and far easier on the eyes as opposed to reading on LCD screens.

The next step for e-ink devices is to incorporate colored screens. The Kyobo eReader has color display but it uses mirasol display technology a wildly different technology from e-ink display such as Triton's. The jetBook Color E-reader by Ectaco uses the Triton color e-ink display is now available for pre-order.

The jetBook has 9.7″ screen with 1600×1200 pixel resolution giving a 206 PPI which is more than decent. It has Wi-Fi and microSD slot. The jetBook is not a full-pledged tablet but it does contain a web browser. This device supports a myriad of formats like Adobe DRM 9.1, ePub, Mobi, PRC, RTF, TXT, PDF, FB2, djvu, JPG, Gif, PNG, and BMP, with more format support coming.

The jetBook Color is not actually an entirely new device. This is a rebadged iteration of Hanvon Wisereader. The mentioned e-Reader has been available to Eastern Europe. The Wisereader has a lower resolution and stylus support. The jetBook seems unlikely to support stylus. Since it is popular in Eastern Europe, Ectaco decided to release this device globally.

The jetBook color is now available for pre-order at $499.95. And it will ship on the 15th of January.
