Toshiba Opts To Equip WiDi Over HDMI On Its Netbooks

Despite the fact that the new Cedar Trail processor has been made with HDMI capability, Toshiba chose not to include this port on its netbooks. This is an unexpected drawback to the Japan-manufactured netbooks. Also, it is a contrast to updates made by companies like Gateway which feature HDMI with their new Cedar Trail netbooks.

Instead of HDMI, Toshiba is offering Intel's Wireless Display (WiDi) functionality for its users. This allows users to connect a laptop to a television and stream content such as videos, photos or web pages over their Wi-Fi via a special receiver.

An example of a Toshiba laptop with this WiDi feature is the Dynabook N301, which is currently sold in Japan now. This product may soon be available in international markets, but with a different model name.

The Dynabook N301 is powered by a dual-core Intel Atom processor with a clock speed of 1.86GHz. It sports GMA 3650 graphics, coupled with 1GB of RAM and a 320GB hard drive. It has a LCD screen that measures 10.1 inches, and a pixel display resolution of 1024 x 600. It is also equipped with Harman Kardon speakers, an audio jack, multi card reader, and USB 2.0 ports. Its battery life is about 6.5 hours.

The retail price for the Dynabook N301 is still currently unavailable.
