Apple saw its iOS devices sales increase in 2011 compared to what it has sold in 
Macs for the last 28 years. According to an observation carried by Asymco's Horace Dediu analysis blog this week (illustrated on the point in a graph below), the entire iOS platform clocked 316 million cumulative gains by the end of 2011, Dediu confirms, where the first iPhones shipped in mid-2007. Though, 28 years following the release of the first Macintosh, Apple only managed to clock the 122 million sales for the Mac.
Dediu further claims, "The iOS platform surpassed the OS X platform in just four years and more iOS powered devices were shipped in 2011 (156 million) compared to all the Macs ever sold (122 million)." Dedui concluded the observation in line with Apple's CEO remark on iPad (55 million) sales from the time the first iPad went on sale. Although according to Cook, the 55 (million) sales was in the projection. In context, it took Apple 22 years to trade 55 million Macs, about 5 years to get iPods' 22 million sales, and about 3 years to sell those many iPhones. Actually, it's on a curve that's off the charts.
