Samsung NC215S Tests Solar-Powered Netbook

While  solar technology can finally provide sufficient power, Samsung has decided to put it to work into the NC215S netbook. While this entry-level portable PC doesn't have very unusual internal components, it does have something on the outside.

With solar panels built into the lid, the black casing of the NC215S houses a 10-inch matte LCD (liquid crystal display)with 1,024 x 600 pixel screen resolution.

The NC215S  runs on Intel Atom N570, which is common on earlier notebooks, and it is supported by 1 GB of RAM. AS for storage, the notebook comes with a 250 GB HDD. It also includes other features, such as WiFi, Bluetooth (3.0) as well as Ethernet (10/100 LAN). The Samsung NC215S netbook operates on Microsoft's Windows 7 Starter OS.

Online retailers should already have it available for $399. One hour of keeping the lid exposed to the sun should net about two hours of runtime. However, this may vary depending on the reviewers might think of Samsung's latest breakthrough.
