The newest Intel Atom microprocessor, Cedar Trail, is now available in some new netbooks for pre-order.
According to some analysts, the new microprocessor does not offer such a great leap from the previous one. Users, however, will still benefit with the changes that Intel Atom has introduced.
One improvement, for instance, is in the graphics processor. Formerly, Intel Atom N2600 and N2800 were able to handle as crisp images with 1080p High Definition video playback. Now, however, the Cedar Trail microprocessor will have an even better HDMI output, which is able to transmit uncompressed data. Another improvement is that these new chips will have WiDi, or Intel's new wireless display functionality.
The new Cedar Trail microprocessor is now available on many inexpensive netbooks, notebooks, and nettops, including those from Acer, MSI, Lenovo, and Toshiba. Said laptops give premium to higher battery life, and are thus highly compatible with the energy-saving, not to mention cost-effective, chips from Intel.
Among those with the microprocessor already for pre-order selling are the $285 Acer Aspire One AOD270, the $269 Asus Eee PC X101CH, and the $299 Asus Eee PC 1025C.
Intel is optimistic that their product will help improve sales, notwithstanding the decline for the demand of laptop computers in the two previous years.
