Toshiba Flaunts Underwater Tablet Wireless Charging

The Japanese company Toshiba is set to impress consumers with their new functionality showcased at the CES 2012.

At the said technological trade event, Toshiba displayed a demo tablet submerged in a tank of water. The tablet PC enveloped in a waterproof case and was playing a video while it was underwater. To the surprise of onlookers, the tablet was able to charge with power while it was submerged.

The waterproofing functionality is useful for anyone who likes using these handy electronic devices while in the bathtub or on the seaside. Whether one would really need to charge while it is underwater is out of the question. Nonetheless, with this new technology, Toshiba has awed many who were at the event.

This underwater charging is done via a magnetic charging system which requires the tablet PC to be at least 3 inches away from the charging base, though it needs not be in contact with it. In the case of the CES display, the charging base was attached at the back of the tank.

The Japanese company has not given word whether it will soon be releasing a specialized waterproof tablet with the magnetic charging functionality. However, it does help users imagine the future of tablet PCs.
