India to Tie-up with Taiwanese Firms for 200M Aakash Tablets

The Indian society is currently promoting the learning needs of its dedicated students. In fact, the government is aiming to dispense 200 million educational-focused Aakash tablets over the country within the next three years. Hence, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), the organization behind the most economical tablet in the world is looking forward to tie-up with Taiwan-based companies to produce the desired number of Aakash units.

The 7-inch tablet is presently on Android 2.2 OS and equipped by 366MHz CPU but there will be soon an upgraded version of Aakash powered by a faster processor. It has packed with a 256 MB of RAM, a 2GB internal storage with memory card slot and two USB ports as well as it is Wi-Fi enabled and has cloud storage too. Unfortunately, the tablet lacks the camera and 3G port features.

Taiwanese tablet makers are well-known for manufacturing large volume of products in a short time frame. They are practicing the low-income labor by setting up lots of factories in China which might get adapted by India afterwards. With the Taiwan firms' aid, the price of these tablets will possibly be lowered at $35 each according to the source.
