ASUS Confirms ARM-based Tablet Running Win8

ASUS didn't wait for the CES to for them to boast what techs are they planning in their 2012 tablet roadmap. At a press event in Taipei, VP and GM of the Eee Systems Business Unit, Samson Hu, laid out a roadmap.

It is already known that there will be an ARM tablet capable of running Windows 8 and there is an speculation that this could be the Transformer Prime. It is now confirmed that ASUS will indeed launch an ARM tablet with Windows 8 as its OS by the end of the year. The release date is probably 11 months away, it doesn't seem likely that they use a 2011 design for a product will come out by the end of the year.

For Transformer Prime fans, there is a good news. The 3G version of the tablet will be released on March. The new variant is also equipped with more powerful GPS module. This is a welcome news since one of the tablets very few weaknesses is its problematic GPS.

It is expected that the CES is going to roll out a 7-inch tablet, probably the ASUS Memo, as well as a new 10-inch tablet with a high screen resolution. We are unclear whether Hu meant that this was a completely new tablet or the ASUS Transformer Prime 3G with a better screen.

There are two more 10-inch tablets that are to be released on the 2nd half of 2012. There were no additional details though. ASUS provided their projections for 2012 tablets with an expectation of 6 million tablets. To achieve this, they are now beefing up their Android Tablet division by adding 100 more employees to the said division. ASUS simply is putting everything at their power in the tablet market.
