New Classmate PC netbooks and convertible tablets from CTL started to appear as the company introduces the 2go Classmate PC NL3, which is based on Intel's reference design, at CES. It's a 10-inch convertible tablet-style netbook that is built around a 1.66 GHz Intel Atom N2600 Cedar Trail dual core processor.
The computer measures 10.6″ x 8.2″ x 1.2″ and weighs 3.5 pounds. It has a 1366 x 768pixel display that's connected to the base with a swiveling hinge. Simply twist the screen and fold it down over the keyboard and use it as a slate.
While today's resistive touchscreens get a lot of flak, its resistive touch panel allows students to write and draw on the screen using a stylus. An active digitizer and digital pen may cost more, but they work even better with Windows tablets.
While it targets students, its body has a ruggedized case design, a scratch-resistant and water-resistant screen and a spill-proof keyboard. Its battery also provides longer operating time of up to 10 hours on a charge.
The 2Go Classmate PC NL3 features 2 USB, HDMI and VGA ports, Ethernet, mic and headphone jacks as well as an SD card slot. It also has a WiFi, Bluetooth and optional 3G connectivity.
CTL NL3 can be purchased for $499 and up.
