Manufacturers Begging Intel for CPU Discount

Acer and Compal are already complaining. They want Intel to subsidize the end cost of the Ultrabook line. Intel, themselves, wanted  the ultrabook to have an of MSRP $1,000 but they are not making it easy for the PC makers. Intel's CPU is costly and manufacturers couldn't afford to sell the ultra-thin laptops with a slim profit margin. The ultrabook already cost so much because of its expensive parts. like SSDs and other higher quality components. Intel already gave 300M to push ultrabooks to the market, hence, it is somewhat understandable that they are unwilling to give manufacturers discount.

Toshiba is the only manufacturer to price an ultrabook below $1000. The base price point of Toshiba Z830 Ultrabook is $850. The other manufacturers are not doing the same thing.
