More or Less 50 Ultrabooks Coming in 2012

Ultrabooks

Intel is predicting that ultrabooks could make up as much as 40% of all laptop sales at the end of 2012. That's a brave guess since there are only few ultrabooks on the market today. However, by January this trend may change since there are between 30 and 50 new ultrabooks to be launched at CES.

This is not the first time Intel pushed for a platform that has better-than-netbook performance laptops. A few years ago, Intel launched the ULV chips for laptops. They can wildly outperform Intel Atom chips but they are not as powerful as the modern processors found in laptops today.

Primarily, ultrabooks are designed to be both portable and powerful. This makes ultrabooks expensive and Intel and laptop manufacturers are push this form factor as the only laptop a consumer needs. As of this moment, the cheapest ultrabook cost $799, which still is very expensive for consumers to swallow.
