Archos May Be Working On A 12-inch Android Tablet

Archos is known for naming the models in its tablet product line according to the device's screen size. The Archos 32 for example has a display of 3.2 inches, and the Archos 101 has a screen real estate of 10.1 inches. If big displays are a crucial feature for you, then you'll probably be excited to hear that this French manufacturer may be in the process of putting out a 12-inch slate.

The speculation is based on a discovery made by 'letama', the username of a senior member of the popular xda-developers forum. Poking around the latest kernel source code changes revealed references to devices that the company hasn't publicly announced. The interesting bits unearthed were: A70S2, A70H2, A101XS, and A120. Going by their naming schemes, that last item could certainly point to a future 12-inch Archos tablet.

There's no official word yet whether or not such a huge-sized gizmo may really be in the offing. If one had to guess at its possible features, the recently launched Archos 80 and 101 would be a good basis. That means this 12-incher is likely going to have an OMAP 4 processor just like its Gen9 cousins. Plus there's some hints that it might be equipped with a gigabyte of memory too.
