Acer Won't Quit on Netbooks

Samsung ended its affair with netbooks. But Acer wouldn't leave the netbook space. Currently, Acer and ASUS are the top two players in the netbook field now. Acer VP Scott Lin strongly stated that they will not give up on the netbook market. With the release of Acer Aspire One 722 and its strong reception, Acer is doing the right thing.

There are several emerging markets such as China, India and Indonesia that has strong demands for netbooks. The company continues to target these market for their products.

Admittedly, netbooks is of limited profits. However, emerging markets wish to strengthen their IT education and order bulks of large amount. Strong volume could help the overall sales of the product line.

Lin will also take over the management position of Acer China. Acer is the 2nd largest PC brand in China and plans to expand its netbook business in the region. Acer  is the largest netbook player in the worl with sales of 1.7 million in Q3, 22% of the market, Asustek has 1.2 million units (16%) and Samsung with 840,000 (10%).
