Gigabyte Unleashes Tablet/PC/Desktop Booktop

Gigabyte T1132N

Not so long time ago, tablets are Windows notebooks with touchscreen displays. These notebooks could be folded flat and can be used as slates. These convertible laptop-style tablets are still around and new models are being made.

The Gigabyte Booktop T1132N is a convertible notebook that runs with an Intel Core i5 processor clocked at 1.6 GHz, 11.6 inch capacitive display with multitouch capabilities and discreet graphics.  The display is at 1366×768 pixel resolution.

Unlike any other underpowered convertible notebooks, the T1132N is designed to be used as a desktop replacement, thanks to the Booktop docking station. You can actually close the notebook, stick the thing on the docking station and connect mouse, keyboard or monitor. The station also includes built-in DVD burner.

The computer supports up to 8GB of RAM, has 2.5″ hard drive bay, USB 3.0 port and an eSATA/USB combo as well as HDMI, audio ports and others. There's a card reader too. Four speakers including 2 woofers, Wifi, Bluetooth 3.0 and optional 3G.

No word on the price for the Booktop but it would be more expensive than the netbook-sized devices with Atom chips.
