Jeff Barney of Toshiba America has revealed plans of the company to design and launch new slate PCs this year. These touchscreen tablet devices will not be sporting any keyboards and will be similar in form factor as the newly-released iPad.
They will be coming in a variety of form factors from dual-screen models to one with a simple 10″ screen. Barney added that they will both be running on Windows 7 and Android, intriguing since Microsoft and Google, the makers of these systems respectively, are competitors in more than one front.
"We definitely see a place for the slate, we see there's a market there. It'll be expansive like netbooks, it won't be cannibalistic," he said. Toshiba is at the number 5 spot in the list of the world's top PC manufacturers and number 4 in the United States. No other details have been revealed by the company.
