In a recent event, Google CEO Eric Schmidt revealed that he estimates that netbooks running the company's Chrome OS should fall in the $300-$400 price range. We all know that the operating system itself isn't for sale and is based on the open source Linux. Neither will access to apps be on a paid basis (except for premium versions like Google Apps) since they are all free, from Gmail to Google Maps.
With that, you will have to wonder, what will compel me to get a GoogleBook over, let's say, a Windows 7 one since they are at the same price? Most people are already familiar with the latter and the former is going to be a challenge with everything running on the browser, which probably makes it less useful if you don't have a connection of some sort.
In any case, time will tell if Google's partners will be able to pull off selling those Chrome netbooks.
