If there's one thing we've learned about netbooks over the past few years, it's that you basically have a few choices to make: You can get a netbook that's thin, light, and has excellent battery life. Or you can get one with a reasonably fast processor. If you're willing to add some weight to your mini-laptop, you can always get a faster model with an enormous battery that doubles the computer's weight. And some newer models like the Asus Eee PC 1005PE really do get about 10 hours of battery life while still weighing in at under 3 pounds.
The Onkyo MX1007A4 takes the easy road to super-long battery life by using an underpowered processor. The Japanese PC vendor says the MX1007A4 can run for up to 14.4 hours on a charge. But in order to get away with this, the netbook has a 1.2GHz Intel Atom Z515 processor and Intel GMA 500 graphics. In other words, it's going to feel more sluggish than most netbooks ont he market with 1.6GHz or faster Atom N270, N280, or N450 processors.
Rounding out the specs are a 10.1 inch, 1024 x 600 pixel display, 1GB of RAM, a 250GB hard drive, Bluetooth, 802.11/bg/ WiFi, and Windows 7 Starter Edition. The netbook weighs about 2.6 pounds and will sell for about $636 in Japan starting on April 10th.
