Like the rest of the world, PC manufacturers in China are starting to branch out from low cost 7 to 10 inch netbooks and dip their toes in the 11 inch and larger space with computers sporting Intel CULV processors. Shanzai.com has two roundups of several new models from Chinese companies that have 11.6 to 13.3 inch displays and Consumer Ultra Low Voltage chips.
Like their Western counterparts, these machines are thin and light, and feature processors such as the Intel Celeron 743 single core CPU and Celeron SU2300 dual core processor. They have 1366 x 768 pixel or 1280 x 800 pixel displays and integrated Intel GMA 4500MHD graphics.
All told, you can probably expect better performance from these machines than from netbooks with Atom processors and GMA 950 graphics. And in my experience, CULV powered notebooks get battery life that is almost as good as an Atom powered netbook, and in some cases notebooks with CULV processors and decent batteries can run for up to 10 hours.
On the other hand, while a larger screen also means a larger and easier to use keyboard, these computers are also bulkier and heavier than most netbooks which makes them just a little less portable.
There's not much information on the pricing for these Chinese models from Phecda and iTTD, the two companies featured by Shanzai.com. But odds are that you're not going to see these laptops sold outside of China anytime soon anyway. At least, not unless they're rebranded and sold under a different name.
