Even with the down economy of most countries, netbooks are still soaring with a 103% growth in terms of shipments compared to the previous year. It seems that people who need computers tend to buy netbooks, which is no surprise. They're a lot cheaper than notebooks and most consumers aren't looking for power but something that will get the job done be it writing down notes in class or just checking email. An added bonus is that they are easy to carry with you to your favorite hotspot and less trouble to setup compared to a desktop since most are usable out of the box.
The report from where we got the numbers also say that revenue for netbooks are up 73% with notebook revenues down by 7%, which is not much but it will surely have an impact on what the manufacturers will focus on. It's predicted that next year will bring a slighter uptick in growth of 19% for netbook shipments and a similar 16% growth for notebooks.
