The Apple versus Samsung legal battle is still raging. Most recently, Apple claimed that Google had warned Samsung about the similarities between the Samsung Galaxy Tab and the Apple iPad, and that it has internal communications from Samsung as proof.
The California-based corporation which owns the Android Operating System supposedly advised the Korean company to make a design that may be recognizable when juxtaposed with the Apple tablet.
The documents also show that other designers also gave the same advice to Samsung regarding the Samsung Galaxy S phone and that it would be better if innovation was undertaken. Reportedly, Apple even has documents to show that Samsung stated that the similarities between the Galaxy S and the Apple-branded iPhone are lamentable.
Thus, the similarities between the Samsung and Apple products are not, as Samsung alleges, the result of an accident or a natural course of events. Apple further claims that the likenesses are intentional and due to Samsung's desire to take part in the success that Apple had gotten with their tablet.
Of course, Samsung's legal team will try to find loopholes against these documents that Apple will bring to court. For one, the relevance of the third-party advice received by Samsung could be questionable. Moreover, Apple naturally chose the communications that favor their case against Samsung.
It remains to be seen just where Samsung and Apple will end up with this legal showdown, and what long-term effects it will have on their companies and on the consumers.
