Rugged laptops are pretty few and far between – this is mostly because such items are usually used only by a specialized group of people. Well, here's another addition to those choices.
Gammatech's D12C rugged laptop is a bit more special though – it's a convertible. This means it can shift to tablet form when necessary. Powered by a Core i5-540UM processor, it has up to 8 gigs of memory and your choice of either an HDD or SSD for your storage options. It also boasts a 12.1-inch LED-backlit WXGA touchscreen, a 1.3 megapixel webcam, WiFi, optional Bluetooth / smart card reader and an integrated carry handle. Plus, it wouldn't be rugged unless it met the MIL-STD-810G requirements surrounding drop and shock resistance. It's also spill resistant and fully dust resistant. It comes with Windows 7 preloaded.
No word on the price or release date, but expect this baby to cost a pretty penny.
