Asus bundles Amazon Kindle software with select netbooks, notebooks

Asus and Amazon have announced that some Asus netbooks and notebooks will ship with Amazon's Kindle eBook software for PC. The software makes it easy to find, purchase, and download eBooks from the Amazon Kindle store and read them on a computer. Of course, the news isn't really that exciting, since Amazon's Kindle software is already available as a free download — and bundling the Kindle software with these notebooks doesn't do anything to the price of the computers.

But Asus is reportedly working on a line of eBook readers, so it's interesting to see that the company is cozying up to Amazon. Could we eventually see dedicated eBook readers with access to Amazon's digital book store that aren't the Kindle? Or maybe we'll see Kindle software on future Asus Android or Windows tablets? Or maybe not.

The first three Asus notebooks to ship with the Kindle software will be the Eee PC 1005PE-Mu27 netbook and UL30A-X5K and UL30VT-X1K thin and light notebooks.

The Kindle eBook store has over 540,000 free and paid titles. Users will also be able to use Amazon's Whispersync technology which saves your note,s highlights, bookmarks, and last read page so that you can start reading a book on a netbook, and pick up where you left off on another PC, Mac, iPhone, Kindle, or other device.
