Samsung is scheduled to introduce a new 1 GHz dual core mobile processor next month. The company had been calling the chip the "Orion," but last night Samsung put out a press release explaining that its new chips would wear the Exynos name. The upcoming dual core chip will be the first member of the family, and it will be dubbed the Exynos 4210.
Catchy, right?
Exynos comes from the Greek words exypnos and prasinos, meaning "smart' and "green."
Interestingly, this comes just before Samsung is expected to launch its next-generation Android tablet at Mobile World Congress next week. While the original Samsung Galaxy Tab uses a 1 GHz Samsung Humminbird processor, word on the street is that the new 10 inch tablet could use a Qualcomm chip instead of a Samsung processor.
It's not clear if that's an indication that Samsung simply isn't ready to manufacture the Exynos 4210 in sufficient quantities yet, or if the company doesn't think that chip is powerful enough for a tablet of this sort.
