Sharp Netwalker PC-Z1 Netbook Runs Ubuntu Linux and Boots In 3 Seconds

If you're itching for a multitouch netbook and just aren't interested in Windows 7, Sharp may have answered your prayers with the Ubuntu Linux NetWalker PC-Z1 netbook, announced this week at CEATEC in Japan.

The netbook is pretty tiny, with a 5-inch touchscreen interface. However, it has a number of other attractive features, like three-second quick boot, a USB port, Wi-Fi, 4 Gigs of memory, and a microSD memory card slot.

The Netwalker PC-Z1 netbook comes with an optical pointer and is designed to work particularly well as an electronic dictionary or e-reader. Battery life is a godly 10 hours and pricing isn't terrible either – 44,800 yen ($500). While initially slated at $479 for September 25, that date has obviously passed, so you can expect the Netwalker PC-Z1 netbook in Japan late this October.
