Jolicloud is a custom Linux distribution designed for netbooks. Of course, there are plenty of those these days. But Jolicloud is designed with an emphasis on bridging the gap between web apps and desktop apps and a heavy focus on social activities. For instance, when you install a new application you can allow your Jolicloud contacts to see in their updates.
The operating system is still in private alpha testing, and up until now it's been relatively tough to score an invite. But starting today all existing Jolicloud users will find that they have 10 invitations in their homebase that they can send out to their friends. So it's time to start bugging people you know that are in on the alpha.
For a more detailed (if somewhat dated) look at Jolicloud, check out my first look article and video.
