Contender For Cheapest Netbook Falls Short of Average

The Lanyu eBook netbook recently went on sale in the People's Republic of China for a price of $98. Yes, that was no mistake - we did say $98. While this netbook may be super cheap though, its specs fall short of impressive…way short, in fact.

For what you pay, you'll get a 7″ netbook (relatively small when you compare to the average netbook size of today) with a processor that's much better than that on your phone (guess that's not saying much though), and some other usual specs, such as Wi-Fi and USB ports.

So far, do you agree that this netbook's sounding okay, at least for its price? Well, the catch is in its operating system. The Lanyu netbook is said to run on an antique version of Windows described as "Win 98 with a hangover." Doesn't sound so tempting right? You'd be quite limited when accessing many applications and services through the Web.

Maybe if you spruced up the machine with another more versatile operating system, it wouldn't be so bad. On the bright side, since the Lanyu eBook only costs $98, maybe you won't feel as bad about damaging or losing it.
