AMD's New Chips Making Their Debut

Asus K53BY with AMD E-450 APU

CPUs are the heart-and-soul of computers. The better the chip, the better the device runs. AMD has come up with a couple of CPUs that are sure to put some kick behind new notebooks and they're starting to show up in the specs.

The E-series E-300 and E-450 are Accelerated Processing Units and are designed for entry-level laptop, netbook, and small form factor desktop configurations. Which means you'll probably be seeing a lot of them. They're already found in the Acer Aspire 7250, along with the Dell Inspiron M102z, the Asus K53BY, and the HP Pavilion G4; all of which are upcoming.

The APUs are dual-core and run at pretty decent speeds of 1.3GHz for the E300 and 1.65GHz for the E450. They only consume 18 Watts of power and have a 1MB cache. Plus, the E-450 supports Turbo mode for dynamic boosting of CPU and/or GPU frequency – which is a big boost.

Expect the laptops and netbooks packing these two to come out next month.
