Acer Em350 Review

Acer Emachines are one of the best emachines found. They are totally worth investing and are value for money. The Acer eM350 is one of the new netbooks launched by Acer in recent times. It has simple looks and is very basic in approach in terms of its functionality. The main aspect of this netbook is that it is very cheap and can be easily affordable by the customers. Thus it has an advantage of price over its competitors.

Design of the Netbook:

As it is mentioned above, the Acer eM350 is not that stylish and is very simple in terms of look. Thus if a customer wants to have a sober looking netbook, this model is definitely going to suit his criteria. It has a completely matte-finish body. It is based on a black theme. Everything starting from the lid, keyboard, wrist rest, touchpad and even buttons are black in colour. Thus it's a very sober looking model without having any glossy look or flashy colour combination in it. There is no question of having stains or fingerprints on the body because of its non-glossy look.

The big plus for the Acer eM350 is the lightweight and the sleek look. It weighs just over a kilo and is just over an inch in thickness. It has large keys and touch pad which helps in typing quickly with no difficulty. But the mouse clicks are a bit tacky. But overall the netbook is quite good, easily portable and a good-looking model. The netbook has a lot of similarity with the Samsung N150 as they both feature the same hardware.

Key Features:

The Acer eM350 is built around the Intel NM10 chipset. The second-gen N450 single core CPU powers it. It has 10.1-inch display, a 1 GB RAM, a 160 GB hard drive and also a 1024 X 600 resolution. It is also accompanied by Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) 3150. Thus it has the most common configuration amongst netbooks. The netbook is accompanied by two USB ports, audio jacks, Ethernet and VGA ports on the left hand side and the right hand side has a memory card reader, power jack and Kensington lock slot as well. The

Thus, the netbook has a high performance and also it is easily affordable. So, it is definitely a thumbs-up for the buyers to go for it.

Acer's Aspire 5749 Will Run Meego on a Sandy Bridge CPU

In such a weird news, an Acer notebook, Aspire 5749, will run Meego. It will be paired with a 2.1GHz Core 1.3 processor. It seems like the processor is too overpowered for the limitations of Meego. Acer contradicted itself when it announced it will only issue the mobile operating system to Atom-based netbooks. The Aspire 5749 is a 15-incher with 1366×768 display. It weights at about 6lbs and measuring 34mm in thickness. It is currently listed at Amazon.de with a price tag of 400 Euros ($577). This laptop comes with 4GB DDR3 RAM, have 500GB of storae and Intel GMA 300. This laptop comes with a DVD burner, three USB ports, 2-in-1 card reader and Wi-Fi connectivity.

Intel Atom Cedar Trail's Benchmarks Disappointing

Intel Atom Cedar Trail benchmarks

The Atom line processor's are not known for being speedy. They are meant to be the chips that run low-cost netbooks. Netbooks are meant to be used in basic computing. These Atom chips are all about stability and battery life rather than raw power. However, the insistence of battery life in Atom's performance hindered the progress of this netbook chips in terms of power in the course of 3 years. The improvements in speed from Intel N270 to N455 are negligible.

When Intel released the Intel Atom N550 and N570 last year, things got interesting. The dual-core Atom line ups its performance in computing tasks because of its multi-core processors. Still, the HD / 3D capabilities is the same, even until now.

VR-Zone published one of the first few benchmarks for the upcoming Cedar Trail. This next-gen Atom chips will power up netbooks as they score up to 3 time higher on the 3DMark06 benchmark than the current line of Atom processors. However, the AMD E350 blows the Cedar Trail out of the water.

The new line of Atom processors include the Intel Atom N2600 (1.66 GHz) and the Inel N2800 (1.86 GHz) with both being dual cores. The N2800 may look like the strongest Atom incarnation today, the benchmark says otherwise. The Atom N570 bests the N2600 in benchmarks on a non-graphics extensive situation.

AMD is still the winner here with its Zacate line as it offers low power consumption, decent performance and a far better graphics and CPU solutions. The AMD line has reasonable battery life too.

Intel's chips run in lower power and, of course, Intel has very strong connections with laptop makers. Intel will still continue to dominate the netbooks in the future because of this.

Dell Updates The Inspiron 14z

The Dell Inspiron series has been the mainstay of the company's line-up for quite some time now. Well, it's high time for a update, I think. Dell has just announced that their Inspiron 14z 14-inch consumer laptop is undergoing  a renovation for a better chassis,a better CPU, and several USB 3. 0 ports.

Packing either an Intel Core i3-2330M or i5-2410M CPUs with integrated Intel HD 3000 series graphics, you can also up its memory to 8GB RAM, and either have a 640 or 750GB HD with Win 7 Home Premium. It even manages to stick in a built-in DVD burner.

All in all, it's a pretty complete package. You can get the base configuration for $599.99. The more high-end upgrades will cost extra.

Viewsonic's Viewpad 10 Now Available

We knew it was coming – and now it's finally here. ViewSonic's ViewPad 10 Pro has finally hit the market and here's to hoping it won't crash and burn.

A 10-inch tablet running on a 1.5 GHz Oak Trail CPU, you can either run it on Android or Windows. Using a 1024 x 600 pixel capacitive multitouch display, it also boasts 2GB of memory, and up to 32GB of storage. Additional features are that it can handle 1080p HD video, an HDMI output, either 802.11b/g/n WiFi or Bluetooth, and a battery that can power it for up to 8 hours.

This baby has a hefty price tag though -  a $599 model has Windows 7 Home Premium and Android 2.3 and has a 16GB solid state disk. The more expensive version at $699 model packs a bigger 32GB SSD and that has a 32GB SSD and uses Windows 7 Professional as well as Android 2.3.

One of the more unique features of the ViewPad is the way it uses Android. Instead of a dual-boot environment, it overlays the Android system over Windows. This means you can run Android apps and use Android features while Windows is still active. With a majority of touch-based apps using Android, this makes it possible to maximize Windows 7′s touch based interface.

Pre-oders are now available while  the tablet has't directly hit store shelves yet,

Samsung Meego Netbook To Be Released

MeeGo Linux may have been a dead-end for Nokia, but it seems others think the OS has some possibilities to it.

Asus has already announced a low-cost netbook for the platform and it seems they're not the only one. Samsung has the N100 netbook ready for release in India.

Costing $275 in India, it's got WiFi, Bluetooth, and a 10.1 inch display. Overall, it looks to be pretty nice for a netbook. Similar to the NC11o Windows netbook from Samsung, the only difference is the MeeGo OS and the slower CPU – which accounts for the cheaper price, too.

MeeGo may not exactly be familiar to many, but the light-weight Linux-based operating system is aimed at beginners and has a completer suite of app: a web browser, social networking apps, multimedia apps, and pretty all the basic features you'd expect from a modern OS. Plus, it's free.

Unfortunately, it seems Samsung is only going to release this baby in India.

Series 3 Laptop From Samsung Beats Up Netbooks

Samsung's newest Series 3 laptop may look like a netbook but make no mistake – this baby can eat those pansies for breakfast.

The Samsung 350U2B packs a 12 inch, 1366 x 768 pixel display and a 2.3 GHz Intel Core i5-2410M processor. This is backed by 4GB of RAM and a 500GB hard drive. Additional features include 802.11b/g/n WiFi, Bluetooth 3.0, 2 USB ports, a VGA port, and an Ethernet jack. The laptop comes with Windows 7 Home Premium. And right now it's on sale from Buy.com for $735. It's also available at other retailers but this is the cheapest you can get it.

So why buy it when I can get a netbook for half the price? Well, because it's got better resolution, a better processor, HDMI output, and a comfortably large keyboard. You don't even lose out on the portability factor – it's only 3 pounds and fits comfortably in one hand.

Better try it out if you have the cash.

Asus's New Meego Powered Netbook Eee PC X101

Asus Netbook Eee PC X101Asus is expected to release its Eee PC X101, according to Asus's site – the 920g wonder will substitute the segment of mini-laptops. The new crimson-colored ultraportable is expected to retail by the middle of this month around European markets.

The device is accustomed to the MeeGo Linux, and will not operate in any of the Windows, which was former the main OS for its netbooks. The MeeGo-running netbook sports a 10.1-inch 1024 x 600 display, 8GB SSD, Bluetooth, 1.33 GHz Intel Atom N435 (or N455) CPU, WiFi, SDHC card support and USB 2.0. With a price tag of $200, the netbook finally hits retailers' shelves this month, you can also settle in white and brown (a Zune homage, we assume). The exact release date is not known though, but at least you have something cute to look forward to.

According to ASUS Technology Country Head in India, Alex Huang, "In ASUS X101 netbook we have integrated the consumer's productive needs with his lifestyle requirements to enrich our customers' experience. I am sure this new offering will bring in substantial traction."

AMD's New Chips Making Their Debut

Asus K53BY with AMD E-450 APU

CPUs are the heart-and-soul of computers. The better the chip, the better the device runs. AMD has come up with a couple of CPUs that are sure to put some kick behind new notebooks and they're starting to show up in the specs.

The E-series E-300 and E-450 are Accelerated Processing Units and are designed for entry-level laptop, netbook, and small form factor desktop configurations. Which means you'll probably be seeing a lot of them. They're already found in the Acer Aspire 7250, along with the Dell Inspiron M102z, the Asus K53BY, and the HP Pavilion G4; all of which are upcoming.

The APUs are dual-core and run at pretty decent speeds of 1.3GHz for the E300 and 1.65GHz for the E450. They only consume 18 Watts of power and have a 1MB cache. Plus, the E-450 supports Turbo mode for dynamic boosting of CPU and/or GPU frequency – which is a big boost.

Expect the laptops and netbooks packing these two to come out next month.
