Active Media launches 1.8 inch solid state disk for small computers

Last year Active Media introduced the SaberTooth ZT line of 1.8 inch ZIF solid state disks for netbooks, notebooks and tablets with 1.8 inch drives. Now the company has launched an updated model called the SaberTooth ZF which offers faster read speeds at a low price.

The ZF series solid state disks come in 32GB, 64GB, and 128GB models. The 128GB version is a new model with sequential read speeds up to 130MB/sec and write speeds up to 90MB/sec. The 32GB and 64GB versions have top write speeds of 130MB/sec and read speeds up to 75MB/sec.

All three SSDs have 40-pin ZIF connectors and support parallel ATA/IDE connections. They're rated for 10 years of data retention and measure just 2.8″ x 2.1″ x 0.2″.

Active Media has put together a list of compatible devices including the Aspire Aspire One A110, first generation Apple MacBook Air, Asus Eee PC 1000HA, Everun Note, HP Mini 1000, HTC Shift x9500, Lenovo IdeaPad U110, Samsung Q1EX and Q1UP, and the Viliv S5, as well as a number of computers from Fujitsu, Sony, and Dell.

The Active Media SaberTooth ZF 32GB disk runs $130. The 64GB model costs $190. The top of the line 128GB model costs $350 — or roughly the price of many of the computers you may be placing the SSD in.
