The Asus Eee PC 1015PED is a 10 inch netbook from Asus with support for DDR3 memory, Bluetooth 3.0, and USB 3.0. It comes in two versions. The high end model has a 63Whr battery and a 1.83GHz Intel Atom N475 CPU, while there's a cheaper model with a 48Whr battery and 1.66GHz Intel Atom N455 CPU.
Asus sent me the top of the line version to review. It has the higher capacity battery and marginally faster processor. The netbook has a 10.1 inch, 1024 x 600 pixel display. It also has a 250GB hard drive, 0.3MP webcam, and the usual array of ports including VGA, Ethernet, mic and headphone jacks and an SD card reader. Two of the three USB ports support USB 3.0, while one is an old-fashioned USB 2.0 port. How quaint is that?
Anyone, design-wise the Eee PC 1015PED looks a lot like other Asus netbooks I've reviewed recently. It has a similar "seashell" design, with a slightly rounded shape that's wider in the back than the front. The lid and display are matte instead of glossy, which is a big step up, if you ask me. The keyboard seems to be pretty similar to those on earlier Asus netbooks.
The netbook is available in black, white, blue, or red. The model I received as a blue lid.
The Asus Eee PC 1015PED-PU17 is available from Amazon for about $360.
You can check out my unboxing and first look video after the break. As an added bonus, this is the first video I've uploaded that's available in HD, thanks to my shiny new 4th gen iPod touch. Unfortunately I still don't have a good tripod for the iPod, which is why the camera angle is so awkward.
