Let's see now, when was the last time that we heard of a netbook that comes with an optical drive? If my memory serves me right I could barely recall the Eee PC 1005? Is that right?
Anyway, as Brad noted, there are several reasons why we don't get to see to many netbooks with optical drives. Actually he mentioned 4 reasons and I couldn't help but agree. These reasons are:
- It helps keep down the cost
- Fewer moving parts to break
- There's not a lot of room in most netbooks for a disc drive
- Microsoft only makes low cost Windows XP licenses available to PC makers for netbooks that meet strict specifications, and a disc drive isn't on that list of specs
So, if you want a netbook equipped with an optical drive, you're best bet would be to check out in China and you'd probably encounter the Webbook 10 by China's Imore. This 10-inch netbook with optical drive comes with the following specs:
- 1.6GHz Intel Atom N270 procesor
- 1GB of RAM
- 160GB HDD
- Wi-Fi
- 10.1-inch display 1024×600
- 2 USB ports
- VGA output
- 2600mAh battery
