Indiana Superintendent Reacts To School Netbook Program

The netbook world has been watching the Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation's new netbook program to see how well it's worked out for the schools involved. The head of Indiana public education, superintendent Tony Bennet (not that one), recently visited Bosse High School to see the program at work first-hand.

Bennet noted one particularly interesting reaction from a student he asked about the netbook program:

"One of them looked at me very sincerely and said 'this makes me like school again,'… If we're able to touch that child in that manner and we motivate that child to do something more with his or her life, that decision we made (to allow schools to implement netbooks) was worth it."

Here's an interesting video featuring the superintendent's visit:

The EVSC netbook program began in June with the purchase of 7200 HP Mini 2140 netbooks, rented to students of the highschool for $70/school year.
