For those who are thinking that Apple is about to kill the netbook market with the release of its new laptop product can rest easy now. It's not going to happen. Apple is not in anyway going to kill the netbooks with the just announced new MacBook Air. Why? Let's take a closer look at what the new 11-inch MacBook Air has to offer.
Key Specs of the new 11-inch MacBook Air:
- 1.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor
- 2GB memory
- 64GB flash storage or 128GB flash storage
- NVIDIA GeForce 320M graphics
Those specs are nothing extra ordinary. They are just your standard specs for the MacBook Pro. But the main reason why it led us to believe that the new 11-inch MacBook Air is not going to cause the death of netbooks is the price.
The 11-inch MacBook Air with 128GB flash drive will cost you $999. Almost double the price of the standard netbooks. Now, who in their right mind will opt to buy the 11-inch MacBook Air over an Acer or Asus netbook with almost the same power? If you are, then you're an true-blooded Apple fanboy. And I'm not. (Sorry wrong statement, should be – I am)
So, are you buying the new Macbook Air?
