$100 DMP Netbook, Anyone?

3_r

Even at this time when netbooks are slowly evolving into a more powerful and bigger form factor, some manufacturers still haven't given up on what use to be the main objective of the netbook manufacturers and the dream of users – to come up with a $100 netbook.

And it seems that Taiwan-based DMP Electronics is among those netbook manufacturers who has not given up on this dream. DMP Electronics just launched its $100 netbook called – the Edubook.

According to Digitimes, the Edubook will be shipped to overseas markers in component form. That is, this component will be assembled locally to save on custom duties and meet import requirements. Doing so will help bring down the overhead cost of the said netbook – hence, achieving the $100 price mark.

What's interesting about the Edubook component which will be distributed in various countries, is the fact that it is easy to assemble. It's 10 different components and modules can be assembled in just 10 minutes using 30 steps.

Now for some rough sketches of its specs, the Edubook will boasts of an 8.9-nch panel and DMP-developed low-power CPU, supports Windows XP and powered by AA batteries which can run for four hours.

Sounds interesting, no? Unfortunately there's no word yet on when this going to hit stateside, although DMP has started shipping some units to Latin America. DMP hopes to ship five million Edubook in 2010.
