Lilbits (5-10-2013): Chrome OS gets a (better) keyboard

Google has consistently denied plans to bring the Chrome OS operating system to tablets. But that hasn't stopped the company from releasing a high-end Chromebook with a touchscreen display and developing an on-screen keyboard for Chrome OS devices with touch panels.

There's not much reason to use the keyboard on a notebook… which raises the question of what exactly it's there for.

Here's a roundup of tech news stories from around the web… and other things we've shared with our followers on Facebook, Google+ and Twitter today.

  • Latest Chrome OS dev update brings a better on-screen keyboard
The keyboard now stretches across the screen and even includes a microphone icon… although it doesn't do anything yet. Right now there's only one touchscreen Chrome OS device on the market, and it's called the Pixel. But it's interesting to see this kind of update rolling out just days before the start of the annual Google I/O developer's conference. [François Beaufort]
  • Acer Wireless Display Dongle hits the FCC
It looks like Acer plans to launch a stick that lets you stream content to a display wirelessly. Will it work with Acer's tablets and phones or just the company's PCs? [FCC]
  • Google adds push notification support for third party apps to Chrome, Chrome OS
Google has rolled out support for push notifications in Chrome and Chrome OS, allowing an incoming message to trigger actions in your browser. Developers will need to write their web apps to take advantage of the new feature to push alerts. [CNET]
  • Updated Wacom driver for the Surface Pro adds support for pressure-sensitive drawing in Photoshop, more
The Microsoft Surface Pro has a Wacom active digitizer and support for pressure-sensitive input from a digital pen. But up until recently only a handful of apps could take full advantage of that feature. Now a software update means that possibly one of the most important apps gets better pen support. [The Verge]
  • Reminder: If you enter a Liliputing contest, make sure I can contact you
This is just a reminder that I need to be able to contact you if you've entered a Liliputing contest. I randomly chose a winner for the Probox2 giveaway earlier this week, but that person logged in with a Facebook account and apparently never checked Facebook for my messages letting them know they'd won. So I picked another winner today.

Just think! If you were already following Liliputing on Facebook, Google+ or Twitter, this would all be old news.
