French tablet maker Archos won't rest until there's a tablet for every conceivable situation. Over the last few years the company has introduced dozens of Android tablets with screens as small as 2.8 inches and as large as 13.3 inches. We've seen specialized models designed for children, or as glorified alarm clock replacements.
Now Archos wants a place in your kitchen. The company's new ChefPad is a 9.7 inch tablet designed to be a cooking companion.
The Archos ChefPad isn't the world's first kitchen tablet. But it is an Andorid tablet with decent specs, a stand that'll let you prop up the tablet on your counter, a removable splash-resistant silicone case, and quick access to cooking apps, videos, and more.
The tablet has a 9.7 inch, 1024 x 768 pixel capacitive touchscreen display, a 1.6 GHz ARM Cortex-A9 dual core processor with Mali 400 MP4 graphics, 1GB of RAM, and 8GB of storage. It runs Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and it's a Google certified device with access to the Play Store and other services.
Given those specs, it's likely that the ChefPad is powered by a Rockchip RK3066 CPU which is a decent performer that doesn't cost too much — which is important since the ChefPad is a relatively inexpensive tablet. It's expected to go on sale in Europe this June for about 170 Euros.
That's about $220 US, but the tablet will likely be cheaper if and when it hits the States.
Other specs include 2MP cameras on the front and back of the tablet, mini HDMI output, a microSD card slot, and stereo speakers. The Archos ChefPad measures 9.5″ x 7.4″ x 0.4″ and weighs about 1.5 pounds.
