Are we looking at the waning interest on netbooks now? Well, if netbook users are still excited about what's going on with the netbook market, apparently LCD makers are not anymore. According to a Digitimes report, makers of TFT-LCD panels are starting to refocus their manufacturing to other areas of the PC laptop market. Specifically, the LCD makers are starting to target the more profitable PC laptop niche.
Well, this is understandable considering that perhaps these LCD makers were not really earning that much from netbooks because of price considerations. So it is but natural that they seek "greener pastures," so to speak. In fact, even netbook manufacturers themselves are starting to graduate to bigger LCD screen sizes with their laptop products, probably realizing that the netbook market may have reached its plateau.
But with around 25-30 million netbooks sold globally in 2009, the problem will be felt mostly in 2010 when netbook manufacturers start to feel the lack of LCD supply. This is true especially for those who may still have plans of producing regular-sized netbooks until next year.
So kids, enjoy your netbooks right now as we may start to see a decline in the supply of new netbooks come 2010.
