Samsung's ATIV Book 9 Lite looks like an ultrabook, but packs AMD inside

Samsung's new ATIV Book 9 Lite is a thin and light notebook for folks that want the portability of an ultrabook, but who are willing to sacrifice a bit on performance in order to save some money.

The notebook has a 13.3 inch touchscreen display, 4GB of RAM, and a 128GB solid state disk, just like other members of the new ATIV Book 9 family. But has an AMD A6 processor instead of an Intel Haswell chip.

That processor is one of AMD's new Kabini chips, which are aimed at mid-range laptops and mobile devices.  It's a 2 GHz quad-core processor with AMD Radeon HD 8400 graphics.

While the chip uses more power than a typical Intel Haswell laptop processor, AMD is positioning this chip as a competitor to Intel's latest Core i3 or Pentium processors, so basically you get mid-range performance and lower battery life than you'd get with a Haswell chip.

The good news is that the ATIV Book 9 Lite should be cheaper than a typical ultrabook with an Intel Core processor — it'll probably sell for less than half the price.

The Samsung ATIV Book Lite fetures a 13.3 inch, 1366 x 768 pixel display, measures 0.66 inches thick, and weighs about 3.2 pounds.
