One of the ASUS's first Intel Atom Cedar Trail based netbooks, the Eee PC X101CH, is now made available in the US. It sells for $279.99 at NewEgg,while it's $10 less at SuperBiiz or Adorama.
This budget netbook sports 1.6 GHz Intel Atom N2700 dual-core Cedar Trail chip, which should offer slightly better performance than the Pine Trail chips used in earlier Asus netbooks. This is supported by 1GB of system memory and 320GB of hard drive.
The netbook has an HDMI port and a 10.1 inch display with 1024 x 600 pixel resolution. At the very least, this will be one of the company's first netbook to handle 1080p HD video playback thanks to Intel's improvements to the integrated graphics for its Atom chips. Furthermore, the netbook runs Windows 7 Starter Edition and has a VGA webcam above the display.
The netbook comes with a standard 3 cell, 23Whr battery instead of the 6 cell batteries common among netbooks, so it costs less than most 10 inch mini-laptops. Asus estimates users to get up to 4.5 hours of run time out of the standard batter.
