HP Offers Ultrabook-Like Sleekbook Laptops

HP is scheduled to release a line of thin and light notebooks this fall. These notebooks, which are highly similar to the ultrabook, but do not completely satisfy Intel's requirements, will be branded with the name Sleekbooks.

HP Pavilion Sleekbook 14 and the Sleekbook 15 are both ineligible from carrying the ultrabook name because they have hard drives, and Intel requires that ultrabooks come with solid state disks.

Furthermore, they are available in several variants in terms of their processors. Apart from Intel, HP is also selling the Sleekbook 14 and the Sleekbook 15 with processors from AMD, a company competing with Intel. All else considered, however, these devices can pass off as alternatives to the Intel-branded devices.

For its part, the HP Pavilion Sleekbook 15.6, as its name indicates, sports a 15.6 inch screen whereas the HP Pavilion Sleekbook 14 has a 14-inch display. The 14-inch notebook sells for $500 while the other is pricier at $560.

One of the advantages of the larger notebook apart from the display is the presence of a numeric keypad on its keyboard. Both sport a multitouch touchpad and come with Windows 8 as their operating system.

Other specifications include a 4-cell battery, 4GB of RAM, 320GB of storage, and optional NVIDIA GT630M discrete graphics. Both notebooks are available in red and black.
