Sony has temporarily pulled the Xperia Tablet S off the market about a month after the 9.4 inch tablet went on sale. The tablet was originally designed to be water resistant, but a defect in the manufacturing process has resulted in gaps between the screen and case which can leave the tablet vulnerable to water damage.
The company has already shipped about 100,000 tablets, and Sony says later this month it will allow customers that have already purchased the Xperia Tablet S to have them inspected and repaired at no additional cost.
It's not clear how long it will take to fix the manufacturing problems and start up production again.
The Sony Xperia Tablet S features a 1280 x 800 pixel display, a 1.5 GHz NVIDIA Tegra 3 processor, 1GB of RAM, and up to 64GB of storage. It features WiFi, Bluetooth and GPS. It's also a PlayStation certified tablet, which means you can download and play games from the PlayStation Mobile store.
While manufacturing has been temporarily halted, you can still pick up an Xperia Tablet S in the US for $399 and up. Just try not to get it wet.
